About > Statistics Glossary

Most of our statistics are self-explanatory. For an exhaustive glossary explaining traditional stats, click here. Here are a few other stats that we use:

GO: Ground outs.

AO: Air outs (line drive, fly ball, and pop-up outs).

BA/OBP/SLG: For pitchers, these are "against" stats; they measure how well their opponents hit against them.

WHIP: Walks plus hits divided by innings pitched.

W/9, K/9, HR/9: Walks, strikeouts, and home runs per nine innings.

Also, here's a bit of information about several of the splits we use:

vs. LH/RH/Unk: We don't yet have complete handedness data for all college players, so for some players, we to include a "versus unknown" split.

Home/Away/Neutral: College teams play many of their games at neutral sites; regardless of whether they bat first or last, we count those games as "neutral."

Month-by-month: This is self-explanatory. However, a handful of teams played their first game in January, and because that number was so small,
we included those stats in the February totals.

RISP: Performance with runners in scoring position.

C & L: Close and Late. A situation is "close and late" if it is the seventh inning or latter and the batting team is leading by one run, tied, or
trailing with the tying run at least on deck.
